Solution Details

COSMO Machinery addresses the needs of machinery builders managing customer-specific products and manufacturing projects. It brings commercial, technical and operational activities together in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, covering calculation, order-specific product structures, engineering, project and resource planning, subcontracting, supplier evaluation and service. Order-specific bills of materials and engineering preparation Manage a bill of materials (BOM) for an individual customer order rather than relying solely on a standard product structure. Multilevel document BOMs bring components, assemblies and capacity requirements together, including resources, work centres and machine centres. Teams can adapt quantities and operations to the machine being supplied and use the resulting structure for costing, scheduling and manufacturing preparation. Engineering construction orders provide a working document for the technical department to develop or revise the order’s BOM before creating production orders. This connects the product structure prepared during sales with the structure used to manufacture the machine. Cost calculation throughout the order lifecycle Prepare preliminary calculations for quotations and orders, then compare expected and actual costs as manufacturing progresses and after completion. Calculation schedules organise material, capacity and additional charges, allowing users to apply costing structures suited to their products and business. Order-related calculations connect commercial estimates with engineering and production information. Subcontracting costs can be considered alongside internal operations, helping teams assess how changes in the machine’s structure or processing requirements affect its calculated cost. Project management and cost control Organise machinery projects through a hierarchical work breakdown structure. Work packages can represent items, services and manufacturing activities, connecting the project budget with procurement, production and delivery planning. Project planning and processing bring schedules, resource requirements and related transactions into the project context. Recorded working time and rolling calculations help project managers review expenditure and progress against the planned scope. Graphical production planning View production orders and their routing operations on a timeline. Planners can move orders or operations to different dates and adjust their start and finish times, with changes reflected in the corresponding production records. Capacity views show the availability and utilisation of work centres and machine centres, including overloaded periods. Together, the order and capacity views help planners investigate bottlenecks and revise the production schedule. Project resource planning Allocate individuals and resource groups to project activities using planned hours and available capacity. Resource calendars provide the basis for determining availability, while linked planning processes connect resource assignments with project schedules. Planning with resource groups allows a team’s capacity to be allocated before a particular employee is selected. Users can subsequently distribute hours to individuals and review conflicts between activity dates, dependencies and resource availability. Engineering integration and change management Connect engineering work with sales and manufacturing through order-related product structures and technical working documents. Teams can develop the machine’s technical definition, review changes and carry revised structures forward into manufacturing preparation. Change management supports coordination when product or component requirements change during order processing. It provides a structured approach to handling technical changes rather than treating sales, engineering and production information as unrelated records. Subcontracting and material provision Manage outsourced production operations together with the materials supplied to subcontractors. Components can be designated for external processing within the product structure, connecting subcontracting requirements with purchasing and material transfers. Material can be provided from internal stock or delivered directly by a supplier to the subcontractor. External processing and its pricing remain connected to the relevant manufacturing order and calculation. Supplier performance evaluation Evaluate delivery reliability using the quantities and receipt dates agreed with suppliers and the quantities and arrival dates actually recorded. Configurable scoring translates delivery deviations into supplier ratings. This gives purchasing teams a consistent basis for reviewing supplier performance alongside their procurement activities. Text management and operational instructions Maintain reusable header, footer and line texts for business documents and product structures. Text pools allow standard wording to be copied into individual records and adapted without changing the original template. Order-related text can accompany information from sales into engineering and production, keeping technical descriptions and operational instructions connected to the work being performed. After-sales service and spare parts Use service BOMs to represent a machine’s component structure for subsequent service activities. Service-related component information supports replacement parts selection and spare-parts quotations or orders. In-house repair workflows connect returned customer equipment with repair preparation, construction and production orders, cost recording and updates to the service BOM. This links the repair work performed with the machine structure used for future service. Platform and licensing prerequisites COSMO Machinery is offered for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, with SaaS and on-premises licensing options. Use of standard Business Central manufacturing and service order management requires the corresponding Microsoft Premium capabilities.
